State-of-the Art Superconducting Accelerator Magnets
With the LHC the technology of NbTi-based accelerator magnets has been pushed to the limit. By operating in superfluid helium, magnetic fields in excess of 10 T have been reached in various one meter-long model magnets while full scale magnets, 15 meter-long dipoles, have demonstrated possibility of safe operation in the 8.3–9 tesla range, with the necessary, very tight, field accuracy. The pap...
متن کاملEnabling technologies for petascale electromagnetic accelerator simulation*
The SciDAC2 accelerator project at SLAC aims to simulate an entire threecryomodule radio frequency (RF) unit of the International Linear Collider (ILC) main Linac. Petascale computing resources supported by advances in Applied Mathematics (AM) and Computer Science (CS) and INCITE Program are essential to enable such very large-scale electromagnetic accelerator simulations required by the ILC Gl...
متن کاملCompensation of Magnetization Effects in Superconducting Accelerator Magnets
Magnetization effects in the coils of superconducting accelerator magnets deteriorate the field quality at injection field level. The CERN field computation program ROXIE has recently been extended to calculate the persistent currents using a semi-analytical hysteresis model for hard superconductors. The model is combined with the coupling method of finiteand boundary-elements for the calculati...
متن کاملSuperconducting Accelerator Magnets: a Review of Their Design and Training*
This paper reviews the basic mechanical designs of most of the superconducting magnets developed for high energy hadron accelerators. The training performance of these magnets is compared with an instability factor defined by the square of the current density in the stabilizing copper divided by the surface-to-volume ratio of the strands. A good correlation is observed.
متن کاملDigital RF Control System for the Pulsed Superconducting Linear Accelerator
The FLASH (Free Electron Laser in Hamburg) (Ackermann et al., 2007) is a user facility providing high brilliant laser light for experiments. It is also a unique facility for testing the superconducting accelerator technology for the European XFEL (Weise, 2004) and the International Linear Collider (Ross et al., 2011). The LLRF (low level RF) system is used to maintain the beam stabilities by st...
